AC Hotel
1890s 6th Ave.
This mural was commissioned for the new AC Hotel in the historic Gaslamp Quarter of San Diego. The client wanted the artwork to showcase a historical scene of 6th Street, where the hotel is now located.
To accurately portray the early 1890s, I carefully studied map images and photographs from the San Diego Historical Society archives. The black and white composition meticulously recreates the architectural style and lively ambiance of the era, with the hotel's future site prominently featured at the center.
The mural transports viewers back in time, immersing them in a bygone era. By seamlessly blending historical accuracy with artistic interpretation, the large-scale artwork serves as an eye-catching focal point. It connects viewers to the neighborhood's rich history while celebrating the modern elegance of the new building.
Ultimately, this mural exemplifies the hotel's dedication to honoring San Diego's heritage while offering a contemporary hospitality experience. It is a testament to the power of art in bridging the past and present.
