Means to Some End$
This artwork is made from billboard panels that I painted from my past day job, which I cut up and reassembled into a new composition. I focused on the areas of the existing panels I found most interesting; deconstructing and reconstructing the panels mirrors how hip-hop producers sample sounds to make tracks. The geometric shapes reference the materialism often flexed in rap culture. Using collage techniques and the panels as found objects connects to artists like Robert Rauschenberg and Jasper Johns. The piece makes the viewer consider the influence of advertising and media on society. It also honors the creativity of artists who repurpose discarded materials in original ways.
